“Whether you want to poke fun at something, embellish a love note, or just prove a point, there’s probably a movie scene out there that can help you do it. People reference scenes all the time in their daily lives, and on the web it’s not uncommon for a blogger to accentuate their post with a particularly relevant clip. But for their popularity, there still isn’t an established site that’s known as the place to find a movie clip — YouTube and Hulu are always worth a shot, but they can be very hit or miss. AnyClip, a new startup that’s launching today at TechCrunch 50, wants to be the solution, with a searchable database of movie scenes.

There are, of course, other places to look for movie clips on the web. But these all have their faults: YouTube is riddled with content that may be somehow related to the scene you’re looking for, but acted out by people who most definitely aren’t the original actors. All of Hulu’s content is licensed straight from content owners so you don’t have to worry about issues with user-generated clip, but their library is still quite limited.

To help make the search engine as accurate and thorough as possible, AnyClip draws its data from a number of sources: first, it has compiled publically available data on the web and associated it with each film. The site has also created a Mechanical Turk-style operation, with a team of humans inputting meta data for each film” – TechCrunch

Imagine the apps which will use this site. How will the site make money and how will they get larger and larger while scaling? Are all bandwidth costs associated with other sites or will they be using their own infrastructure?

Knowing what your customers are doing is great, but wouldn’t you like to know why? Affective Interfaces has developed a ground-breaking technology that can give you the reasons behind the actions you see.

Using emotion sensing technology, Affective Interfaces uses a webcam to capture your customer’s facial expressions in response to your product and can help you uncover the non rational influences affecting decisions from purchase to engagement. We help you understand how people are feeling about your brand, products and messaging.

TechCrunch:

Affective Interfaces’s SaaS uses a webcam to monitor facial expressions such as smiles, frowns and other emotions. The software analyzes these expressions and how they related to different parts of a site.

So for example, Affective Interfaces will compare the emotions of a user while they are on CNN.com vs. Gawker.com. Or the software could be aptly used to determine emotions on an e-commerce site, like Zappos.com, to see what emotions affect engagement and purchasing decisions. Affective Interfaces gathers customer content through video ads, media etc., then collect and process the data for clients and create a report that deciphers the emotions of users.

5to1 is the only self-serve ad platform that allows you, the publisher, to “program” ad inventory to suit your content. This improves the relevance of ads so that they match your audience.

You know your audience and content better than any algorithm ever could. 5to1 empowers you to select only 100% relevant ads, eliminating sales channel conflict and inappropriate ads of any nature.

By joining the 5to1 platform, you can automatically and easily increase the value of your content, as well as manage your own inventory to create maximum benefit instantly.

5to1 Platform/Solution

As a publisher, the 5to1 platform offers innovative tools that give you unprecedented control of the ads served on your site:

The simple publisher’s user interface shows you ads based on filters, searches and sorts according to your preferences on an “opt-in” basis (as compared to the typical “opt-out” rules of traditional ad networks)

Scrolling over an ad instantly gives you all of the relevant details and statistics

A straightforward drag-and-drop system lets you easily arrange your selected ads into playlists

“In the meantime, Google bought them, say multiple sources with knowledge of the deal, for around $30 million in cash. The deal is done, say our sources, and will be announced shortly.

Gizmo5 is a good fit with a number of Google products. Google Talk allows voice calls between users but has no PSTN link to allow incoming or outbound calls to real phones. Gizmo5 does this well already.

And Google Voice is a great VoIP and phone identity service, but they have no endpoint for calls. Gizmo5, which by the way already integrates with Google Voice, is a soft phone end point for Google phone users. In other words, you will be able to make and receive calls to your Google Voice phone number from your computer.

This looks to me like Gizmo5 will be the glue that puts Google Voice and Google Talk together into a single product. And that product looks a lot like a Skype competitor.” - TechCrunch

Ad Mob acquired by Google for $750 million! Talk about a serious build-up of arms in comparison to Google’s competitors.

AdMob is a mobile advertising marketplace that connects advertisers with mobile publishers. They allow advertisers to create ads, choose landing pages and target their ads with plenty of detail. Ads can be targeted to locations, carriers, phone platforms and phone manufacturers.

Ads can also be targeted to specific sites or you can browse their channel categories including categories like communities, contextual search, entertainment, etc. All ads are run on an auction-based pricing system. AdMob clients include ESPN, CBS, Geico and Starbucks.

A great feature that AdMob offers advertisers is mobile landing page creation called Landing Page Builder. Some advertisers want to enter the mobile ad space but don’t have mobile landing pages. This tool fixes that problem. CrunchGear reports that they have recently launched iPhone-specific ads that don’t take viewers to seperate landing pages, but instead bring up “Google maps or pop-ups that give you location- and time-specific messages”.

AdMob recently launched a new product AdMonitor that shows live data of who is viewing mobile ads around the world. The product is a mashup with Google Maps and provides stats like what phone people are using and what network they are with.

Competitors include Third Screen Media and Screentonic. -- TechCrunch

Based on GPS and related data, users can request alerts when friends are within a certain distance, send messages to groups of friends in particular area, and be able to tag and blog physical locations in a way that’s accessible to friends through Loopt.

Users can also take pictures from their cell phones and tag them; these pictures will be available to friends and others on the Loopt network.
